Introduction
Background: 1
The Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial honors the Americans who served in the operations and commemorates the international coalition that liberated the State of Kuwait in 1991. Conceived as an oasis on the National Mall, the memorial’s rising landforms, sculptural reliefs and symbolic figures reflect the unity, service and sacrifice that shaped this defining moment in history.
